QDI Systems, founded in 2019 as a spin-off from the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials at the University of Groningen, is a global leader in Quantum Dot technology. We specialise in developing Quantum Dot technology for X-ray detectors used in mammography, and in the rapidly growing short-wavelength infrared (SWIR) market. At QDI, we collaborate with leading image sensing companies to integrate our cutting-edge QD technology into their product lines.
We are looking for a Junior Synthetic Chemist/Operator to support our R&D team in the synthesis, characterization, and quality control of quantum dots. This role is essential in assisting our experienced chemists and ensuring smooth laboratory operations.
Responsibilities:

Assist in the synthesis of quantum dots, including preparation of reagents and following and optimising established protocols.
Conduct basic characterization of quantum dots using in-house techniques.
Support purification processes for synthesised quantum dots.
Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with safety protocols and best practices.
Prepare and manage laboratory inventory, including chemicals and consumables, ensuring availability for ongoing experiments.
Document experimental results accurately and maintain organised records of all laboratory activities.
Collaborate with senior engineers/chemists on process improvements and optimizations, providing insights based on experimental outcomes.
Participate in routine lab tasks, such as waste disposal and equipment maintenance.
Requirements:
About you
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related field.
Hands-on experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in chemical synthesis or materials characterization.
Familiarity with standard laboratory techniques and safety protocols.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols accurately.
Basic knowledge of characterization techniques for nanoparticles is a plus.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team and support senior chemists effectively.
Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to tasks.
