About the New Product Introduction Engineer role:
As an NPI Engineer, you will be reporting to the COO. You will play a pivotal role in bringing our photonics products from conception to market, ensuring a seamless transition from R&D to production, including:
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including R&D, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to develop and execute NPI plans for new product launches.
• Lead the implementation of efficient and scalable manufacturing processes for new products, optimizing for cost, quality, and reliability.
• Conduct thorough feasibility studies and risk assessments to identify potential challenges and mitigate risks during the NPI process.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance NPI processes, streamline workflows, and accelerate time-to-market.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation including work instructions, process specifications, and quality standards for NPI projects.
• Perform root cause analysis and troubleshoot technical issues that arise during NPI activities, implementing corrective and preventive actions as necessary.
• Collaborate with suppliers to qualify new materials and components, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and quality standards.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing teams during the production ramp-up phase, resolving any issues that may arise to ensure successful product launches.

What we are looking for
• Education: Master’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or applied physics, ideally combined with optics or integrated photonics.
• Proven experience in NPI or product development roles within the photonics industry or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience with integrated photonics devices and/or optical imaging and/or sensing products in an industrial environment.
• Solid experience with mechanical, electronics, thermal and/or optics/photonics design.
• Cross-disciplinary understanding of optics, chemistry, materials science, or biology is a plus.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality management systems, and product lifecycle management.
• Expertise with CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks), simulation tools (e.g. COMSOL), PCB layout (e.g. Altium Designer) is a plus.
• Self-motivated hands-on approach: willingness to engage directly in all aspects of operations.
• Solid communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, comfortable to work in a fast-paced environment.
• The job requires that the candidate lives in or close to Enschede, The Netherlands.
• This role requires a minimum of 4 days office/lab presence.
