As an intern your assignment focuses on the investigation and testing of various mechanical clamping solutions in its impact on the optical performance of optical fibers. The assignment consists of: A theoretical analyses and experiments of impact of different V-groove designs, materials, dimensions, and fibers on optical performance. Optical table test set up is available. Analyzing and testing the impact of different clamping forces, force vectors and friction on optical performance. Optical table test set up is available. Reporting test results and underpin with theoretical analysis. Defining recommendations for fiber clamping designs. Analyzing and testing the impact of operational heat loads on fiber clamping on optical performance. Reporting finding of tests and investigations, interpret the results and give recommendations for improvements or suggestions for further investigation. Designing additional mechanical set-up features required to conduct the described activities.
