About the programme:
European Doctoral Network on POSTDIGITAL Plus brings together internationally leading teams from academia, research centres and leaders of industry, including IBM, Thales, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Belgium and three regarded start-ups NcodiN, Akhetonics and VLC Photonics in the field of optical computing to train a cohort of 15 doctoral candidates in the inter-disciplinary fields of emerging disruptive neuromorphic computational technologies and their applications. POST-DIGITAL Plus has the ambition and the vision to create a new generation of scientific and industrial leaders that will greatly contribute to strengthening Europe’s human resources and industry competitiveness in future digital and post digital economy and technology.

About the role:
You are a PhD candidate applying for a position in a HORIZON EUROPE Doctoral Training Network on Post-Digital Computing + (POSTDIGITAL+).

You will work on an individual research project for Akhetonics, while doing your research for your doctoral thesis.

Responsibilities:
Job description: Our team is primarily interested in advancing computing through photonics. Methodologically, we focus on investigating new structures and materials for photonic integrated circuits, aiming to develop more powerful and efficient processors for future computer generations.

                Working alongside PhD and Master’s students, as well as industry partners, you will join our project team to push forward the development and testing of photonic computer architectures. These architectures will be used to showcase photonic computing capabilities with applications in machine learning, high-performance computing, and general-purpose computing.

                Your research will lay the groundwork for energy-efficient photonic computers in both classical and quantum contexts. Such systems hold tremendous potential for enabling energy-efficient high-performance computing, marking a technological breakthrough beyond traditional electronics.

Requirements:
•       No doctoral degree at recruitment date
•       Residence or main activity in Germany must have been less than 12 months.
•       Duration between 3 – 36 months

Salary Range:
60K – 65K
