Job Description:
VLC Photonics, a young and dynamic company at the forefront of photonic integration, based in Valencia, Spain, now searching for a new member to be added to its growing team.

We are looking for a Senior Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) Designer with a strong background in Physics, Telecommunications, Microelectronics/RF, Optics/Photonics, or similar, and PIC design skills to strengthen our Design Department.

Responsibilities:
• Work on the development of novel integrated photonic devices for high-speed optical interconnect and sensing applications.
• Work with cross-functional teams to co-design and co-optimize photonic systems, driving the success of various projects.
• Develop innovative design methodologies, pushing the limits of device and system-level optimization.
• Floor planning, custom layout and verifying against design rules and schematics. Fill, post-processing, DRC mitigation.
• Collaborate closely with foundries and fabrication partners to ensure smooth integration of designs into production processes.

Requirements:
• Advanced knowledge of optics and photonics technology. Master or Ph.D. in Optics/Photonics, or in Semiconductors.
• Advanced Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) design skills (Synopsys, GDSfactory, Lumerical, Photon Design, IPKISS/Luceda, VPI, Klayout, etc.).
• Proficiency with optics design tools, such as Lumerical Charge and Ansys HFSS.
• Minimum of 4+ years hands-on experience in integrated optics design and simulation (Design of active and passive components).
• Solid numerical and physics-related programming skills (Python, C++, etc.)
• Organized, capable of dealing with tight deadlines.
• Good analytic and communication skills.
• High level of English (fluent B2 minimum).

Ideal but not essential:
• Experience in TCAD modeling.
• Experience with epitaxial growth and design.
• High-speed optical modulators, lasers and detectors
• Lab experience with high-speed test equipment, such as AWG, DCA, VNA, BERT.
• PIC fabrication/packaging knowledge.
• Any other extra language (e.g., Japanese, French, German, Dutch, etc.). Spanish not strictly needed but recommended.
• Good international networking skills and available professional network. Having lived abroad is considered valuable.
